Freeing Up Hosting Space
Updated 5 days ago
If your website has stopped working or receiving emails, you may no longer have physical storage space available in your hosting plan. Remember that emails stored on your server, backup files, plugins, and other theme files, even if they are no longer in use, take up space on the site.
The first thing we recommend is identifying where this space is being used. You can check this in cPanel by entering the following URL in the address bar.
Note: remember to replace "misitio.com" with the correct URL for your domain.
To monitor the space in use, use the Disk Usage tool.
Once you click it, you will notice that a process begins in the new window to determine which resources are taking up space and how much. This will take a few minutes. Finally, the information will be displayed in a format very similar to the following screenshot:
Here you can find a detailed breakdown of everything taking up space on the disk, and you can delete files you no longer use (by clicking the locations, the File Manager tool will open).
Typical solutions to the lack of space:
Domains: We recommend removing domains you are not using or that have expired from cPanel. This will help you save space and better manage your active domains.
Email: You can delete old or unimportant emails and regularly empty the spam, sent, deleted and other folders. You can also use a client such as Outlook; it will download the emails to your computer, allowing you to save a significant amount of space on the server, as long as you use the POP3 configuration.
Files: If your hosting contains files you do not use, it is best to delete them as well. This includes any .zip files or FTP accounts, as well as cache and temporary files generated by some installed CMS platforms, such as WordPress or PrestaShop.
Images and videos: Optimize the size of the images and videos you plan to upload to your website, such as images that exceed a normal screen size or lack compression, like BMP files. If you find images larger than 200kb, they probably have little or no compression, even if they are JPG files. Also, remember that you can link images to an external service, such as Google Drive or YouTube.
Backups: When creating backups, we recommend downloading them and saving them on your own computer or an external hard drive to save your online storage space. After downloading them, delete the copies from your hosting account. Additionally, you can schedule your backups so that the files are automatically sent to the cloud instead of being stored in your plan.
More space: If these possible solutions have not resolved your lack-of-space problem, the remaining option is to upgrade your hosting plan through mi.duplika.com to get more space and work with greater freedom. You can change plans at any time, instantly and without migration.
